Egg-cellent Restaurant Design: Hatch

Breakfast is the most underrated meal of the dayespecially when going out to eat. Generally, the food is simple, the atmosphere is cozy, and the check doesn’t break the bank. Inspired by our love for all things breakfast, we’re featuring Hatch Early Morning Food, a micro chain known for their basic yet delicious breakfast and brunch.

The Concept

Located in the trendy Automobile Alley neighborhood in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Hatch is owned by Provision Concepts, a local restaurant group headed by Aaron Soward and Jeff Dixon. Their mission was simple: provide great food and service in a comfortable atmosphere.

Open from 6am to 2pm every day, Hatch is a true breakfast and brunch concept, which is gaining traction in the restaurant industry. The menu features a little something for everyone: from classic benedicts and towering egg sandwiches to hash brown tumblers and fried chicken and waffles, this place prides itself on serving comforting classics with a modern twist.

The Design

Aside from the food, we love Hatch’s unique restaurant design. Designed by Fitzsimmons Architects, there’s a lot of things going on here, but they all work together. Bright colors are the driving force while industrial textures play a secondary role.

At first glance, you’ll notice the bright yellow barsimilar to the color of a sunny side up eggas well as the bright turquoise and green laminate tables and banquettes. Hatch was wise to choose the bright teal color for table tops and banquettes as it provides the perfect contrast to hearty plates (read: golden brown food) and diners that want to share their experience on social media. And because Hatch is open so early, the colors bring a much-needed energy and pop to the space.

For an industrial touch, the floors are finished in a grey polished cement while the walls feature an red brick and large industrial windows. The ceilingnot to be outdoneuses neon lighting to create dramatic grey and black geometric shapes. For furniture, Hatch opted for the minimal and modern Brady Chairs and Barstools and four fully upholstered armchairs that create a cozy nook.

Colorful, industrial, and dramatic. While these items could spell design disaster, in Hatch they work together to create that cozy, modern breakfast spot that feels unexpected and welcoming at the same time. It’s the perfect place to start your day (or afternoon), and diners have taken notice.
