For that extra oomph, we adhere to a process that ensures you get the color you want in a timely manner. The process is simple. Below, we outlined everything you need to know about our process + the timelines you can anticipate.
CUSTOM STAIN/PAINT for WOOD
Applies to wood seating and solid wood table tops
What You Need to Know
- There is a $200 net charge to match any wood stain.
- A physical sample chip must be sent to the Grand Rapids Chair for matching.
- Digital or printed paper copies will not be accepted. Send the physical chip to:

Timeline
- Creating your custom stain sample will take us about 10 business days to formulate.
- Once formulated, we will overnight a physical sample to you for approval.
- Your written approval is required for all samples. Please send the sample back using the prepaid envelope included with the sample.
Keep in mind, there is no minimum order for custom stain. If there are any additional glazing operations, we’ll have to quote that on a separate basis.
CUSTOM POWDER COAT COLOR for steel and aluminum
Applies to steel chairs, aluminum chairs, steel bases, and cast iron bases.
What You Need to Know
- All custom powder coat colors must be quoted by customer service based on color, complexity, and minimum quantities supplied by vendors.
- For a shorter lead-time, please provide your account manager with an RAL number for custom powder coat colors. If a non-RAL color is requested (e.g. Pantone or Benjamin Moore), a physical sample chip must be sent to the Grand Rapids Chair factory for matching. Digital or printed paper copies will not be accepted. Please send your physical chip to:

Please note: We are not responsible for obtaining physical samples and we will not be able to quote until we have a physical chip sample for non-RAL colors. For physical samples of non-RAL colors, please contact the color manufacturer for the sample. Sample chips can be ordered online. Please note, non-RAL colors will result in extended lead times.
