Two Lights Seafood & Oyster Is an Oasis in the City

by Andrea Reynolds

Two Lights Seafood & Oyster is like taking a vacation without ever leaving the city. And if you’re lucky enough to live in Chicago, you could be on vacation all year round. Owners Keene and Megan Addington opened Two Lights just this past summer in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. Since then, this casual seafood restaurant has been delighting Chicagoans with its Instagram-friendly interior and “gigantic oysters.”

While fantastically large oysters sound great, we know you’re here for the design. So, let’s dive in.

The interior is soaked in bright white with splashes of neon pink, mint green, and cobalt blue. Inspired by the Addington’s summers in Maine, the restaurant’s design is aimed to help guests relax, unwind, and reset.

These details include classic materials like white marble on the huge L-shaped bar, natural light woods on the dining tables, and classic white subway tile behind the bar. Furniture is not forgotten; cool industrial barstools juxtapose traditional mint green wood chairs (aka our Hugh Chairs) placed in the dining area. Altogether, it’s a masterful blend of classic materials and modern touches.   Other details like a pink neon sign that says “Reset” creates a coral glow while gold sea-sayings literally and figuratively tell guests to relax. It’s not tacky but rather calming. I’ve never been to Maine, but I imagine it feels something like Two Lights. Clean, refreshing, cool, unassumingly pretty, and most of all, relaxing.

As guests nibble on small plates, slurp down oysters, and sip on craft cocktails, they may (or may not –it is vacation after all) notice all the fantastic design details and materials.

So, this winter, if you can’t get away from it all, 227 W. North Ave. in Old Town might just be your oasis in the city.
